Nestled at 7,028 feet elevation, Mancos sits in a valley surrounded by mountains and the high desert to the West. Just a few miles to the west Mesa Verde National Park contains one of the world’s best collections of cliff dwellings. It is one of the most popular attractions in the Southwest and is unique because it preserves the beauty of nature and the works of early man. Previously referred to as the Anasazi, the Ancestral Pueloan’s thrived in the region from 600 to 1300 A.D. Camp, and fish at several area lakes: Mancos State Park, Little Bauer; mountain bike at Phil’s World or stroll along Chicken Creek among the Pine trees. The Town of Mancos began in the late 1800’s and retains its pride in history “Where the West still lives” with ranches and farms. Downtown is thriving with art galleries, varied dining options, a cidery, coffee houses, Don’t forget to stop into the Mancos Museum and the Mancos Common Press.
